SAFETY RULES

The range is a COLD RANGE, and there are only two places you may handle firearms: The SAFE TABLE and the FIRING LINE.

Pistols:

All pistols should come to the firing line BAGGED/BOXED, or HOLSTERED.

Because NHSC is a COLD RANGE, you are not allowed to have a loaded gun on your person except at the firing line under Range Officer supervision.

If you are carrying when you enter, let one of the Match Directors know. You will be allowed to unload under Range Officer supervision at the FIRING LINE.

Rifles:

Rifles must enter the range cased or boxed, unloaded.

Rifles will be uncased at the SAFE TABLE, pointing at the LEFT WALL.

When uncased, rifles will be transported MUZZLE UP ABOVE THE HEAD. This includes going to the line, to the safe table, etc.

Rifles will be racked with magazine removed, and the bolt open or with a chamber flag to hold the bolt open, or both.

Please do not use under-the-barrel tube fed rifles unless they can be loaded from the butt end or through a loading gate in the breech.

NOTE: The safety rules are NON_NEGOTIABLE!!

If you violate the rules, you will be through shooting for that match. You may come back and shoot another match another day, as we believe in second chances.

Remember, SAFETY IS CRITICAL!

SAFE TABLE

SAFE TABLE is on the LEFT when facing DOWN RANGE.

No AMMO allowed at the SAFE TABLE.

All Muzzles pointed AT THE LEFT WALL when at the SAFE TABLE. THIS IS THE ONLY SAFE POSITION!!!!

FIRING LINE

Keep Muzzle pointed DOWN RANGE, even when removing gun from case.

If muzzle is pointing the wrong way when opening case, TURN THE CASE so the muzzle points downrange.

Shooters load on Command from the Chief Range Officer ONLY.

STOP SHOOTING on the final BUZZER.

UNLOAD and show CLEAR to SAFETY OFFICER before putting gun away.

Keep Muzzle pointed DOWN RANGE, even when retuning gun to case.

START POSITION:

Fingers must be OUTSIDE THE TRIGGER GUARD

Pistols must start with muzzle or butt of the gun on the table, muzzle pointing DOWNRANGE

SA (Single Action) Automatics should start COCKED and LOCKED

DA/SA (Double Action/single action) type Automatics start DECOCKED.

Safety does NOT have to be ON

SA (Single Action) Revolvers start HAMMER DOWN or in first Safety Notch (NOT HALF COCK)

DA (Double Action) Revolvers start HAMMER DOWN

Striker fired guns (Glock, etc.) are treated as if they are DA/SA with the hammer DECOCKED

Rifles start with muzzle touching the table.

Note: Because many 22 Pistols and Rifles often have bizarre safety locations, we do NOT make 22s start with the safety ON. However, it IS recommended you use the safety.

REMEMBER: FINGER OUTSIDE THE TRIGGER GUARD!!!

SAFETY OFFICERS:

The primary job of the safety officer is to WATCH THE SHOOTER!!!

Make sure:

1) The shooter does not point the gun in an unsafe direction

2) The shooter does not leave the line with any rounds in the gun

3) The shooter does not leave the line unless his pistol is bagged/boxed/holstered, or his rifle is MUZZLE ABOVE HIS HEAD

RULES OF THE GAME:

You will be called to the line by your number. First number called goes to the LEFT shooting box.

At the table, you may handle your firearm, KEEP MUZZLE DOWNRANGE.

You will LOAD on command.

When you are ready, put your gun muzzle or butt on the table, and indicate “ready” to the safety officer.

You will hear:

“Ready Left, Ready Right, STANDBY”, followed by a buzzer ½ to 2 seconds after STANDBY.

On the buzzer, shoot down the white plates and finish with the STOP PLATE (red).

DO NOT SHOOT YOUR OPPONENTS PLATES!!!

When finished, unload, show clear to the Safety Officer, and bag your gun.

After sufficient relays (usually at least 4 or 5), we will break the group into A, B, and C class depending on number of loses, and there will be shoot offs in each class to determine a winner.

SPECIAL RULES:

If you have an iron sighted gun, and your opponent has a dot, scope, or laser, you will get to shoot down one plate before the buzzer. You get a one plate advantage.

You may load as many rounds in your magazines as you like, except during special matches which may have restricted round counts.

Some matches may have a START and a STOP plate. You must shoot down the START plate FIRST, and the STOP plate LAST.

Same matches may use all white plates, in which case they may be shot in any sequence.
